It is something special to practice with a forged blade. Japan Budo also offers a special assortment in this product range. Our assortment spans normal steel blades, blades made of spring steel, carbon steel swords, folded blades (Damast blades) as well as blades made of Tamahagane.

The Iaito / Katana come from several smiths respectively manufacturers. But we also offer Katana of our own commissioned production (Japan Budo Line). Steel Iaito and mono steel swords are not allowed to produce or distribute in Japan. The aim of this prohibition is to foster traditional sword forging. The noncompliance is prosecuted very strictly. If mono steel iaito or swords from Japan are offered, you have to expect an illegal occurences. Also real Japanese swords have to be registered by the national museum. If you visit Japan with a unregistered sword, this one will be confiscated and destroyed. Since a smith in Japan is allowed to manufacture two Katana per month only, there is an incentive to distribute illegally unregistered swords abroad.

As is the case at the clothes we want to realize the largest individuality as possible at the steel swords, too. The swords of the Japan Budo Line are products which are manufactured particulary for Japan Budo. Therefore we are able to enforce quality criteria which you often can’t find at other vendors. Our steel swords of the Japan Budo Line are not products from China but products made in Germany. Hence we are able to offer swords appropriate for real practice. We offer Katana for cut tests (Tameshigeri) which also are very convenient for Iaido, Shenkendo etc. because of their excellent weighting. We are sure to provide the best steel Iaito.

Like the Wish Iaito from Japan we want to offer the opportunity of an individual design of your own choice. The Fittings available to choose will be ordered in Japan after the incoming order whereby the delivery time will extend to approx. 4 weeks. You can create  your dream sword in an esthetic as well as a functional perspective. Regardless whether you want to use the Katana for Iaido, Shinkendo, Katarining or cut tests (Tameshigeri), you are able to reach the optimum.

You have the possibility to let sign the blades of the Japan Budo Line. The signature includes the Mei (date of manufacturing in Japanese letters) as well as a text containing up to 20 letters. The signature can be placed on the sword angle or on the blade.
We don’t assume liability for damages caused by Tameshigeri exercises. Since you are able to damage every blade by improper handling, we don’t issue a guarantee for cut tests except verifiable quality deficiency. The blades are designed for common Tameshigeri exercises (e.g. with rice straw mat or green bamboo). Take attention to the advices shown separately in the sword description. The usage of other materials for cut tests is dangerous and should be desisted. Cut tests shouldn’t be executed alone and only be conducted under expert survey. We also recommend not to practice with sharped swords without supervision due to safety reasons.
